Sally led the project for Wakehurst’s 10 year Designed Landscape Plan, a blueprint for  Kew’s Wild Botanic Garden and the Millenium Seed Bank in the Sussex weald. The Designed Landscape Plan illustrates key design principles for each of its 26 phyto-geographic character areas, with collections set within the grade II* historic landscape. The plan has helped guide Kew’s Wild Botanic Garden philosophy with exotic meadows, steppes, and other designed elements and landscapes, creating analogies of wild landscape typologies. Proposals are underpinned by knowledge of the site’s conditions and historic significance to help deliver Kew’s mission in beautiful, accessible and enjoyable settings, making science accessible. The strategy set out spatial design and landscape management principles and priorities for each of the 26 character areas, to reflect and reinforce Wakehurst’s status as a world leading ‘wild’ botanic garden, linking science with practice.  Many of these areas have now been completed and SPLA have contributed new designs for the next plan.
