This tiny, hidden park in the centre of Greenwich is the former burial ground and setting for Grade I St Alphege Church. Despite its considerable heritage interest, it is sadly underperforming. Working with the Friends group, we highlighted its nearly intact layout, heritage significance and pleasure ground design by Fanny ‘Rollo’ Wilkinson, landscape designer. Through a series of workshops, our community led masterplan creates a blueprint for the future to reverse its decline and revitalise it as a safe space - for activity, play, heritage and nature, especially important for the adjacent residents.

Re purposing the 1881 Mortuary as a park building is central to the proposals, providing a new accessible entrance from Greenwich Station, while improving the park’s offer, with new uses. Conservation of historic fabric alongside new design interventions would restore heritage and improve safety and accessibility for surrounding residents, thus restoring pride, play value and biodiversity in this important little park.
