North Flower Walk for Kensington Gardens
Client: The Royal Parks
Work stages: RIBA 1-3. 2023-2025
Construction contract Value: £220k.
Our design for North Flower Walk capitalises on the historic use of the site as Queen Caroline’s Banqueting House and its ‘Breakfasting Rooms’. Working with significant trees and landform, newly designed glades and spaces will link across a redesigned route. By relaxing the path line we allow the visitor to slow the pace, look around at nature in the glades defined by horticulture, rather than the path ahead.
Themes and colours will give each a different character, but with a common naturalistic thread. Playful sculptures and seating are woven throughout. Using co-design workshops with Royal Park staff we harness the best of their horticultural skills within a new spatial framework. The whole garden will act as a floral counterpoint to the more formal South Flower Walk to the southwest.
