Ickworth Estate

Client: National Trust
Work stages: Parkland Management Plan. 2025-26

Working with John Phibbs and FWAG we devised a historically informed masterplan for this 730Ha estate in Suffolk. Of particular interest to the NT is improving the Natural Flood Management for the site, while restoring historic elements and improving accessibility. Our plan identifies lost historic bridges that indicate lost routes. By proposing their reinstatement, we can start to solve problems of circulation, and aid flood management. This not only improves access and historic landscape legibility but enables the restoration of habitat and flood meadows. Wider reinstatement of summer and winter routes help disperse visitors and gives different opportunities for repeat visits and access to the wider natural world. With FWAG we are able to propose sustainable farming strategies that also improve biodiversity and sustainability, demonstrating and contributing to the NT’s goals.
