Canbury Gardens
Client: LDA Design for Royal Borough of Kingston
Work stages: – Heritage Study, Masterplan Design Strategy. 2019
In terms of its overall layout, Canbury Gardens has changed little in terms of the structure of its landform and path layout since its creation in the 1890s, as Kingston’s riverside town park, however the surroundings had changed considerably with new housing replacing lost industry. SPLA led the heritage study and design strategy which proposed a comprensive design strategy. As well as enabling the new communities to access this riverside park, significantly improving its cohesiveness and circulation, we proposed new natural play integrated with the landscape to make better overall use of the space and keeping riverside areas free for informal enjoyment of the mature trees and views.
